Is your job meaningful?

8 Jan

First let me define what I mean by “meaningful” in terms of tasks you complete each day:  Tasks that require you to use your talents in a way that feels fulfilling at the end of the day.

Perhaps a follow up to this question would be interesting. The question is “Is your job meaningful?” Just because the person’s tasks are meaningful to the job itself, there is still the issue of “is the job itself inherently meaningful”? for example, you could be involved in a cause you do not believe in – destroying a forest to build a mall for example. perhaps the tasks you are given will be meaningful to the task at hand (cutting down trees) but if you value the environment more than the mall, your tasks would be meaningful but your job would be meaningless? just a thought 🙂

That’s a good point, Katie. It must be a real challenge to be in a situation like that. Right now I am just focusing on finding value in my own work. Sometimes when I lose track of the big picture I get frustrated by the repetition of the job. It must be tough when you can see the bigger picture but you don’t agree with it.
